Navy Falls to Delaware in Season's Last Game2010-02-21
NEWARK, DEL (Friday, February 19, 2010) -- The Navy men's hockey team's season came to a resounding halt Friday night,
as Delaware's Blue Hens scored early and often en route to an 9-0 victory in the opening round of the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL) playoffs at the Fred Rust Arena.
Delaware led 4-0 after the first period, then doubled the score to 8-0 after two periods. The Blue Hens added a single tally in the final stanza to complete the scoring.
As a result of the loss, the Mids ended the season with an overall 10-21-3 record.
Delaware will now meet #2 seed University of Rhode Island tomorrow (Saturday), while #1 seed Penn State will face West Chester, which defeated Drexel Friday afternoon, 4-3. The championship game will be held Sunday at 4 p.m.
Navy had been seeded 6th going into the ESCHL tournament -- behind Drexel (#5), West Chester (#4), and Delaware (#3) -- after finishing the season with a 1-15-2 league mark. The Mids' final two league games with Drexel, which had been scheduled for the weekend of February 5-6, were canceled because of snow.
