ANNAPOLIS, MD (Friday, October 22, 2010) Navy (6-4-0) won their third conference game in as many tries as they defeated VillanovaUniversity at home, 4-3.
The Midshipmen brought forth a torrent of offense, firing 43 shots on goal and dominating the game throughout. Despite the one goal differential, Navy controlled the play throughout and nearly converted on several other goal scoring opportunities.
Leading the way was the line of Doug Dietrich, Steven Csutoros, and Jim Tumolo. The line, known by the players as "the Perfect Storm", took to the ice with a fury and accounted for three of Navy's four goals. Senior captain Sam Carlson put home the fourth goal, unassisted.
Jim Tumolo seemingly cannot be stopped lately as he chalked up another two goals. He now has 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 10 games this season. Dietrich picked up an assist on a picture perfect pass to Csutoros in the slot during the 3rd period for what turned out to be the game winning goal.
Jameson Marshall played true to form, keeping the Midshipmen ahead for most of the game with several big saves.
The Midshipmen, who are now 3-1 in Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association play, hope to keep the train moving as they take on LoyolaUniversity in a non-conference home contest on Saturday, October 23rd at McMullen Ice Arena at 7:30 PM.
