BYFIELD, MA (Saturday, October 9, 2010). At Governor's Academy in front of a large contingent of Navy fans, the Midshipmen were able to defeat Harvard University's ACHA team by a score of 6-1. Although the score remained tight for much of the hard fought contest, the Mids rallied in the third period to secure the victory.
The game was marked by fast paced, back and forth action with the Mids jumping out to a 1-0 lead when Assistant Captain Steven Csutoros redirected a shot from the point by fellow Assistant Captain Matt Roberts four minutes into the game. Harvard was able to tie the game at one with their only tally late in the 1st period.
In the second period Navy mounted a more sustained offensive attack but outstanding goaltending by Harvard kept the game close. Eventually, Navy took the lead for good on a power play goal by Sam Carlson.
In the final period, the Mids controlled the play with suberb puck movement. After successfully fending off multiple shorthanded situations, highlighted by tremendous goaltending by netminder Jameson Marshall, Massachusetts native Tom Krysil added a pair of insurance goals for Navy. Jim Tumolo added some more cushion for the Mids with his first goal of the season on a breakaway late in the 3rd. Navy Captain, Sam Carlson, put the game out of reach with his second goal of the night to close out the game.
The contest marked the first time Navy has played a game in the Boston area in eight years. Navy, now 3-3 on the season, will complete its two game swing through the Boston area with a game against Bridgewater State College at the Bridgewater Arena on Sunday, October 10th at 3PM.
