Seniors Get Service Selection Assignments

ANNAPOLIS, MD (Thursday, November 19, 2009) -- All eight seniors on Navy's ice hockey team received their respective first service selection choices yesterday, and the impressive list includes one Navy SEAL, three Marines, three Navy pilots, and a surface warfare officer.

Co-captain Chandler Brewer (Darien, CT) learned yesterday that he earned a coveted SEAL billet.  Goaltender Eric Anderson (Sartell, MN) received Marine Corps ground, alternate captain Keegan Kinkade (Indianapolis, IN) received Marine Corps pilot, and fellow alternate captain Andrew Ochalek (Milan, MI) earned a Marine Corps aviation billet.
The list of soon-to-be Navy pilots is comprised of goaltender Jeremey Estevez (Grand Rapids, MI), co-captain Patrick Heitman (St. Louis, MO), and team president Alex Tidei (Park Ridge, IL).
Upon graduation and Commissioning this May, forward Calen Mims (Albuquerque, NM) will become a surface warfare officer.
"Everyone associated with the Navy Hockey program is so proud of these eight young men," said Navy head coach Mike Fox.  "Each of them received their first choice of service assignments, which in itself is an impressive achievement.  It speaks to the quality of leader and student athlete we have in our senior class and throughout our entire team.
"We feel very fortunate to have such outstanding senior leadership this season," Fox added.  "These eight young men are setting a standard of performance, character, and leadership for the underclassmen on our team to emulate.  They are all excellent role models, teammates, and friends, not just on the ice, but in Bancroft Hall and wherever they go."
Navy is in action this weekend, traveling to State College, PA to meet Penn State tomorrow (Friday) night at 9 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
