Kingston, RI (Saturday, October 3, 2009) - Navy's ice hockey team gave nationally ranked University of Rhode Island all it could handle Saturday night, but the Midshipmen came up just a little short, falling to the Rams, 6-4, at the Brad Boss Arena.

Navy is now 3-3 overall this season and 0-2 in the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL).  URI is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the ESCHL.

Unlike Friday night when the Mids got on the scoreboard first, the Rams jumped out to the early 2-0 lead Saturday night on the strength of a pair of first period power play goals.  URI stretched its advantage to 5-0 midway through the second stanza before Navy launched its comeback effort.  The Mids picked up power play goals from sophomore Mitch Pulver and junior Sam Carlson to cut the deficit to 5-2, then pulled within 5-3 before the period ended on an even strength tally from junior Michael Orzetti.

URI, ranked 10th in the American Collegiate Hockey Association pre-season poll, found itself on the verge of collapse in the third period after Pulver scored his second goal of the night mid way throught the third period.  With three minutes remaining URI scored to complete the scoring at 6-4.

Senior Midshipmen netminder Eric Anderson finished with 32 saves.

Navy is back home next weekend, hosting ESCHL rival University of Delaware Friday and Saturday nights (Oct. 9-10) at the McMullen Hockey Arena in Annapolis.  Game time both nights is 7:30 p.m.
