The visiting #12 University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos (20-9-2) defeated the Navy Hockey team (13-16-4) by a score of 4 to 2 in a closely played afternoon contest. The Bronchos were three for eight on power play attempts and added an insurance short handed goal to seal the victory. The Midshipmen scored one power play goal in eight attempts.
The Bronchos jumped out to a quick two goal lead with two power plays goals off the stick of Mike Haszto. Navy’s Mitch Pulver cut the lead to one when he collected a rebound and buried it past UCO’s netminder Cory McGlone. About six minutes later, Navy’s Alex Wallis tied the game on his third goal of the weekend sereies, on a goal mouth scramble. However, the second period featured a Bronchos power play goal and a short handed goal to restore a two goal lead. The remaining 31 minutes featured many chances but neither team was able to capitalize and the final score was UCO 4 and Navy 2.
Jameson Marshall recorded 42 saves and Navy was outshot for the game 46 to 35.
Navy Hockey is back in action next weekend against ESCHL league foe #7 Rhode Island. Both the Friday game and the Saturday game will be at 7:30 PM at the McMullen Ice Center. Fans in attendance are asked to bring their American flags and wave them with pride to salute Navy’s Matt Swezey, who will join Team USA for the Winter World University Games in China. This weekend will be Swezey’s last home games for Navy. He will play his final game in a Navy jeresy on Feb. 12 when Navy travels to Delaware.
