To go along with this exciting news, the Navy Hockey team is also announcing several events to close out the 2008-09 season:
January 31, 2009 – The annual “Skate With Navy Hockey” event will be held immediately following Saturday’s 2 PM game. For this event, the Brigade Sports Complex will offer free admission to the game to any youth hockey player wearing their team’s jersey. Parents will be charged.
February 14, 2009 – In order to kickoff the start of the 32nd Annual Crab Pot Tournament, Navy Hockey is pleased to announce that NASA Astronaut Stephen Bowen (Captain, USN) ’86 will be on hand to perform the ceremonial puck drop at 7:30 PM prior to the Navy – Maryland game.
Capt. Bowen traveled aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in November 2008 to the international space station. He traveled with several Navy Hockey mementos as he was a standout goaltender for the Navy Hockey team from 1982-86.
February 15, 2009 – Navy Hockey will welcome the Honorable Peter Franchot, Comptroller of Maryland, to perform the ceremonial puck drop at 3:30 PM prior to the Crab Pot Championship Game.
March 27, 2009 – During the day, the Navy Hockey team will engage in a leadership outreach at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey. St. Benedict's Preparatory School has served students from the Newark area since 1868 with an emphasis on rigorous academic study combined with a focus on developing virtue, character and talent of students. The Navy Hockey players will host sessions in academic tutoring, leadership training and mentoring, and physical training and development.
At 6 PM, the Navy Hockey team will practice at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at Prudential Center (New Jersey Devils’ practice facility). March 28, 2009 – The Navy Hockey team will conclude the 2008-09 ACHA season with a game against the Rutgers University Ice Knights at 1:30 PM at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at Prudential Center.
Following the game, the Navy Hockey team and staff will watch the Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes game, as guests of Mr. Jeff Vanderbeek, New Jersey Devils owner, and Rev. Edwin D. Leahy, Headmaster of St. Benedict’s Preparatory School.
