Navy Drops Season's First Meeting with Delaware


ANNAPOLIS , MD (Thursday, January 22, 2009) – The visiting #4 University of Delaware Blue Hens (16-3-4) defeated the Navy Hockey team (13-15-3) by a score of 5 to 1.

The Blue Hens scored four unanswered goals in the first period, including two on their first two shots of the game, to jump out to an early and commanding lead.  

During the second period Navy's Matt Swezey (13th) netted a power play goal but Delaware answered two minutes later to restore a four goal lead.  The third period featured back and forth action but no goals.

Jeremey Estevez recorded an incredible 48 saves in relief of Jameson Marshall as Navy was outshot in the game 55 to 30.

Navy Hockey is back in action next weekend as the team welcomes the University of Central Oklahoma.  Friday night's game is at 7:30 PM and Saturday's game starts at 2 PM.  

The annual “Skate With Navy Hockey” event will be held immediately following Saturday’s game on January 31st.  The Brigade Sports Complex is offering free admission to the game to any youth hockey player wearing their team’s jersey.  In addition, the Navy Youth Hockey Mites will be playing between periods.
