Navy jumped out to a quick two to nothing lead in the first two minutes of the game on goals by Andy Lazzaro and Stevie Csutoros. Georgetown’s Alex Yale-Loehr would score a power play goal while Navy was serving a too many men on the ice penalty, but Senior Assistant Captain Eric Bowen would net a goal to close out the scoring in the first.
In the second period, Culliton scored his first of the game on Navy’s first shot of the period. However, Georgetown came out like a team poised to upset the Midshipmen as they scored three straight goals to tie the game at four.
As he did in the second, Culliton opened the scoring in the third with his second of the game. The third period would be all Navy as they got goals from Kevin Frederick, Sam Carlson, and Culliton to complete his hat trick. The only goal for Georgetown in the third was a disputed goal by Lukas Autenried that appeared (and sounded) to hit the goal post and not the net. However, referee Scott Pomento ruled it a goal.
Navy’s Alex Tidei finished with 38 saves and was credited with keeping the team together during the second period when Navy was outshot 25 to 5. For the game, Navy was outshot 43 to 28.
This concludes the 2008 portion of the Midshipmen’s schedule. They are back in action in 2009 on Friday January 9 as they host Drexel at 7:30PM. Have a wonderful Holiday break!!!
